What is a Pension Letter, and Why Do You Need It?

A Pension Letter is a crucial document confirming your eligibility for US government benefits. It contains essential details such as your name, birth date, Social Security number, the number of benefits you are eligible for, and the date when they will start. Suppose you are applying for the Pensionado residency category in Costa Rica. In that case, you must provide this document to prove you have a monthly lifetime pension of at least $1,000 USD. This monthly pension varies a bit per country.

Time Frames – Pension Letter

Documents procured from the US with apostille or legalization are taking a bit longer than normal due to the ongoing aftermath of the global pandemic crisis. While we do our best to expedite, wait times have increased to about 6-8 weeks, depending on the document type. Especially because the apostille or legalization process is entirely separate of the procurement of the pension letter itself involving other government institutions.  We ask you to kindly take these timeframes into consideration.

Pension Letters are often required for immigration applications, for applicants age 18 or older.
